Military Credit
Military Credit
West Virginia University (WVU) seeks to award college level credit for transcribed occupations held by servicemen and servicewomen of the Armed Forces. Under the umbrella of Prior Learning Credit, students are given the option of articulating credit from military experience if academically advantageous for them. Students are encouraged to consult with their academic advisor to determine if adding such credit is beneficial.
Required Documentation
Students must have an official copy of their Joint Service Transcript (JST) or Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) transcript on file with the West Virginia University Office of Admissions.
Course Equivalency
Students who believe their experience warrants a WVU course equivalent may submit a request for review through the Transfer Equivalency Review Request (TERR) system. Please use the American Council on Education (ACE) Military Guide to obtain a description and credit hours for the requested ACE ID/occupation. In lieu of a syllabus, provide the occupation description on the Prior Learning Equivalent Form provided on the TERR site.
Non-reviewed occupations will award NOEQ 100 or NOEQ 300, based on the ACE recommended level of credit(s), either lower or upper level respectively.
Credit Hours
WVU will honor the recommend level and total number of credits provided by ACE. If an occupation awards an identified equivalent at WVU, the hours of equivalent will be subtracted from the ACE recommended total.
Questions
Students and/or advisors who have questions regarding the ACE Military Guide, or their JST should email veterans@mail.wvu.edu. Students and/or advisors who have questions regarding submitting their requests, or other transfer credit related issues should email transfercredit@mail.wvu.edu.
