Advanced Placement

Advanced Placement

Advanced Placement refers to coursework earned via sufficient scoring on various exams, typically taken while in high school. These include:
  • Advanced Placement Exams (AP)
  • International Baccalaureate Exams (IB)
  • College Level Examination Program (CLEP)
Advanced Placement credit is awarded based on the equivalency determined for the year in which the exam was taken. Students may refer to the Office of Admissions for the most recent list of exam equivalents.

For additional information on WVU policies related to Advanced Placement, please review the WVU catalog page.

Students are encouraged to confirm that all Advanced Placement scores have been submitted to and received by the WVU Office of Admissions. Questions regarding the receipt of score reports can be directed to WVUAdmissions@mail.wvu.edu.

Beginning for First Time Freshmen in the fall 2019, Advanced Placement exam equivalencies will not be automatically awarded to their record at the receipt of their scores. Exams and scores will be displayed in the "Not Counted" bin of the student's Degree Works audit, indicated with the appropriate subject code, the number 1XP, and titled with the earned course equivalent.

Students may request to have their AP exam equivalencies applied to their record by utilizing the following AP Credit Request page.

Students who transfer to WVU with Advanced Placement exams that were previously articulated will have their exams articulated to WVU based on the year the exam(s) was taken.
