D/F Repeat Process

The Office of the University Registrar is pleased to announce the automation of the D/F repeat process. This policy allows students who earned a D or an F in their first 60 hours at WVU to repeat the class and only count the second attempt in their GPA. In previous semesters, students and advisors had to submit a paper form to take advantage of the benefits of this policy. This change in process will provide immediate benefits for students, faculty and staff by eliminating additional paperwork and ensuring that all eligible students may take advantage of the D/F repeat policy. This process is in effect for all classes repeated in fall 2011 and future terms only.

Dropping A Class

Deadlines:
Until the Friday of the tenth week of class (or Friday of the fourth week in a six-week summer session, or Friday of the second week of a three-week summer session), students may withdraw from individual courses. Deadlines are posted under Important Deadlines each semester. If you follow all established University procedures and withdraw before the published deadline, you will receive a W on your transcript. Grade-point averages are not affected in any way by this mark.

If you need to drop the last class you are enrolled in, then you must withdraw from the current term; please visit the website for details on Withdrawal Policies.

Procedures:
Before dropping individual classes, consult your advisor to determine if:

  • Your course load would be reduced below the minimal requirements set by your college or school. If so, you must get permission from the Committee on Academic Standards of your college or school.
  • Your course load would be reduced below the minimal number of hours required to qualify for financial aid, NCAA athletic competition, or international full-time student status;
  • The courses to be dropped are required to fulfill academic probationary conditions;
  • The courses from which you want to withdraw might be a corequisite with other courses you are taking, or prerequisite to other courses required for the next term.

After reviewing these parameters with your advisor, then you may drop individual classes using the web registration system.
