Academic Information

Your academic progress is very important to us, and we want you to have easy access to all of the information you need to advance successfully in your WVU education. From final exam schedules, to Liberal Studies Requirements, to descriptions of the many majors offered at WVU, at some point you will need to find a program, policy, or procedure.

The West Virginia University course catalogs detail all of the official academic policies. Additionally most of the essential details are published in the course schedule each term. We’ve also placed many of these policies on line for your convenience. An assortment of web links is offered here to assist with your efforts.

Faculty Information

Mid Term Grade Entry

1. If you do not know your MIX User Name and/or PIN, please call OIT Help Desk at 293-4444 (ext. 3) before you try to enter grades on-line. It is a good idea to check your MIX access prior to entering grades on-line.

2. Point your browser to http://www.mix.wvu.edu/ A Secured Access Login screen will pop up.

3. Log in using your MIX User Name and PIN (Your default PIN will be your day of birth and last 4 digits of your Social Security Number, if you have not changed it. If your employment started after July 2004, it will be the last 4 digits of your WVUID instead of your Social Security Number). If you have forgotten your PIN, please call the OIT Helpdesk at 293-4444 ext. 3 to request your PIN be reset to the default. You are required to change your Pin every 90 days.

4. At the next window, click the STAR tab at the top, then the “STAR Information System – Click here to enter STAR” link. (You can view or print a copy of the Web for Faculty and Advisors Guide manual in this window, as well as run the tutorial for “Faculty Midterm Grade Entry Tutorial”. These are located under “Resources: Faculty Guides”).

5. At the next window, click the “Faculty” link.

6. At the next window, select term by clicking the arrow in the box and selecting appropriate term, then click “submit”.

7. At the next window, click the “Mid Term Grades” link.

8. At the next window, select the CRN of the course you are going to enter grades for, then click “submit”.

9. Begin entering the grades for each student by clicking the box under the “grade” column and selecting the grades to be assigned. If a grade of “W” has already been assigned, it means that the student has withdrawn from the class and you cannot assign another grade for the student.

NOTE: You should be aware that using the wheel on the mouse (if it has one) to scroll down the page could change your assigned grade for a student. We recommend using the scroll bar on the side.

(Please note that there is a 20 minute time limit for each screen of 25 students. If it takes you more than 20 minutes to work that screen, click “submit” at the bottom of the screen to save your work. You can then continue to enter grades for the rest of the students. Click “submit” before you select the next list of 25 students by clicking “25-50”. You can also change the grade assigned to a student by selecting a new grade and click submit again.)
